'The Master of Miniatures', Ray Harryhausen, is featured today along with one of his more well known creations, the KRAKEN. Personally, I think this is the best version of the creature to appear on film. Pirates had the giant octopus, The Fellowship of the Ring had 'The Watcher', and I even enjoyed the behemoth in Clash (2010) but this one is the most iconic.
The original Clash of the Titans has always been one of my top movies and pretty much anything by Harryhausen because they're pure adventure. I believe that in heaven there is a neverending reel playing of Jason and the Argonauts, 20 Million Miles to Earth, and all the other Dynamation classics. Also very enjoyable is a DVD set that I don't hear much about on other movie sites of his early career shorts (sans monsters, Ray Harryhausen: The Early Years Collection) that is essential for anyone calling themselves a fan of the man. It's basically the fairy tale shorts and World War II training films he made in the 40's and 50's to build up his portfolio. But you're here for the pictures, not the column, so here they are. I have MUCH more of Harryhausen in your future. Keep an eye out.
