This week brings two behind-the-scenes pictures, both featuring possibly the greatest working director, Steven Spielberg. Fresh off 'Raiders of the Lost Ark', Spielberg is somehow able to follow up with another classic, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial. They just don't make kids' movies like this anymore and it's a shame. Even Spielberg doesn't make 'em like this anymore.
The harsh realities of life weren't dumbed down for a younger audience. I needed that growing up. I needed to be scared by a pale, dying E.T. and to have the same feeling of helplessness as Elliott. It builds character and teaches kids to learn how to deal with these situations. It also showcases the unbelievable direction that Spielberg was able to give the young actors and the amazing performances they were able to give to him. Here's a look into that movie magic:
