It's hard to believe Braveheart is more than fifteen years old. But then again, I remember it was one of the first VHS tapes to span TWO cassettes which was a big deal (to me). Not only that but it was in widescreen which wasn't all that common in those days and paved the way for DVDs. I hope my kids never even know what "pan and scan" is.
Anyway, people today often forget how talented Mel Gibson was and still is. Too many gossip columns and not enough intelligence to watch movies for what they are. At their core, they're entertainment. An escape into the illusionistic world of cinema. Here's a couple of shots of Gibson creating that illusion by not only starring in a three hour epic, but directing as well. The poses are the same but shot #1 is director mode and shot #2 he's in William Wallace mode.
