Despite a lack of behind-the-scenes photos of a well-known scene from Donnie Darko or Jake Gyllenhaal goofing off with Frank the Bunny off camera, we're still featuring the movie. Partly because we're in the habit lately of showcasing every known BTS photo from the spotlight title, partly as a call out for any more of these rare photos, and partly to point out how young director Richard Kelly was when he pulled off this amazingly complex shoot.
I personally think it's one of those stories that's pretty straightforward regardless of how many theories the fans came concoct. That's the admirable thing about Donnie Darko: it can have a different personal meaning for every viewer. For someone that looks so understandably "over his head" in the photos below, Kelly seems to have accomplished one of the best independent films ever and, at only 26 years old, he deserves much more credit.
