I'm a little surprised at the lack of Halloween-related titles that came out this year. There weren't even many bad choices to pick from but at least this week we get Zombie (a.k.a. 'Zombi 2', 'Island of the Living Dead', etc.) and Island of Lost Souls which is a Criterion release.

Another excellent contender for the "Pick of the Year" is the Jurassic Park - Ultimate Trilogy Gift Set possibly for the T-Rex statue alone. Though the sequels are my biggest disappointment in all of movie history, the first Jurassic Park is one of only ten movies we rate a perfect 10/10. The others didn't really even have a chance and there is nothing about the original that I don't like. NOTHING. This is the movie I think of when I hear "Steven Spielberg" and why I still think of him as the best director ever despite a very long slump. A very… long… slump.
Since the original Jurassic Park is the only one that matters, it's the only one I'm going to cover as far as bonus material. Included is the very first behind-the-scenes feature I ever saw, "The Making of Jurassic Park" hosted by James Earl Jones. There's also the new multi-part documentary "Return to Jurassic Park" with some of the cast and crew. The only gripe is the lack of deleted scenes which I KNOW are out there. One of our two VHS copies has the scene where Ellie grabs the extinct leaf before the Brachiosaurus reveal and the theatrical release showed the T-Rex bursting through the wall of the compound at the end. No sign of them here.
Back in August we promised you that today would bring the Criterion release of Dazed and Confused and lo and behold it's here. If you didn't see Winnie the Pooh in theaters then, not only shame on you but you also don't deserve to see it on Blu-ray. It's the return to traditional animation and it's lack of support scares me more than anything this Halloween. If a great movie doesn't make money, studios will keep making crap that you'll pay for. Stop paying for crap movies. Below are some of the non-crap titles to be released.
